Jetpack flies off with live-action Mars series for teens from KiKA, Zoom

DreaMars is being filmed at the Habitat in Israel

MIPTV: German and Israeli broadcasters have teamed up for a live-action sci-fi show targeting older kids and teens, with UK-based Jetpack Distribution attached for international distribution.

DreaMars (20×22’) is a coproduction between production outfits StoryZ Productions, Tel Aviv-based SKLAN&KA and France’s Samka alongside German regional public broadcasters NDR, HR, SWR and RBB. It is set to air on German kids’ channel KiKA and Israeli broadcaster HOT’s children’s channel Zoom in 2023.

The series, unveiled on the first day of MipTV, tells the story of eight teenagers, led by a 16-year-old girl, who fly to Mars for a critical mission in preparation for settlement on the red planet. However, upon arrival, they discover they have landed in the wrong place.

DreaMars is being filmed in the research facility known as the Habitat, established by the Israeli Space Agency in the Ramon Crater area, the first space simulation centre in Israel, which replicates settlements on Mars.

Jetpack Distribution CEO Dominic Gardiner said: “This ground-breaking series strongly appeals to both teens and space enthusiasts. We know space missions are of interest to kids globally right now, and the production teams have created something to build intrigue around – and cultivate – that interest.”
