Gulli and Rai back Underdog reboot from DeAPlaneta Entertainment, Superprod Group

The Underdog reboot is set for a global launch this fall

M6-owned Gulli in France and Rai in Italy are on board a reboot of classic US cartoon series Underdog from European producers DeAPlaneta Entertainment and Superprod Group.

Originally created in the 1960s and distributed all over the world, the character’s last screen appearance was in the Underdog live-action film distributed by Walt Disney Pictures in 2007.

Aimed at five- to eight-year-olds, the 52×11′ reboot will follow a fearless dog who, alongside other super-powered canines, protects the inhabitants of Capitol City from villains trying to take over the metropolis.

The animated comedy series has been developed by Superprod Animation and is currently in production in its Paris and Angoulême studios in France as well as Superprod-owned Red Monk’s studios in Milan.

DeAPlaneta Entertainment and Superprod Animation have previously collaborated on That’s Joey! and Helen’s Little School.

DeAPlaneta Entertainment holds the media rights for Spain, Portugal, and Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the merchandising and brand licensing rights worldwide, excluding the US and French- and Italian-speaking territories.

Superights, Superprod Group’s distribution arm, is selling into other territories worldwide. The series is scheduled for a global launch this autumn.

Clément Calvet and Jérémie Fajner, co-founders of Superprod Group, said in a statement: “Underdog aims to be the ideal introductory superhero for young children: a delightfully goofy, genuinely kind dog superhero, backed by an awesome team who takes on wonderfully mischievous, hilariously wicked supervillains.”
