Goldridge Media to shop Box to Box docs on Benazir Bhutto, Johan Cruyff

Goldridge Media is taking a slate of documentaries from UK-based Box to Box Films to Mipcom next week, led by projects on Benazir Bhutto, Miami nightclub owner Chris Paciello and Dutch football icon Johan Cruyff.

The London-based distributor will be in Cannes offering Benazir – The Assassination (1×90’), which marks the 20th anniversary of the death of the two-time Pakistani prime minister. The feature, originally developed for Showtime, charts the countdown to her murder in 2007, with first-hand testimony from people who knew her and who witnessed the events of the day.

Madonna, Miami & Murder (3×60’) is directed by Matt Whitecross (Oasis: Supersonic). The series looks at the 1990s Miami club scene through the life of Paciello, who counted Madonna and Donald Trump among his friends and was in a relationship with Sofia Vergara. It follows how his mafia past in Long Island was eventually uncovered by the FBI.

The third title, Cruyff (4×60’), is directed by Sam Blair, whose previous work includes Steven Gerrard: Make Us Dream and was coproduced with Dutch prodco Lusus, as previously revealed by C21.

The series was produced for Dutch public broadcaster NPO and has already been picked up by a number of international buyers, said Goldridge, without detailing which channels or platforms. Made in collaboration with the Cruyff family, the series features interviews with figures from the game past and present, including Pep Guardiola.

Danny Goldman, MD of Goldridge Media, said: “These titles reflect the diversity of the Box to Box Films slate – premium documentary making in political history and true crime alongside the best-in-class sports documentaries that Box to Box is known for around the globe.”

The three new titles join Box to Box’s boxing doc The Kings (4×60’) on the Goldridge slate. Bruin Capital-backed Box to Box Films is behind series including Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Full Swing and Break Point, as well as feature docs Amy, Senna, Maradona and Supersonic.
