JioHotstar rebranded earlier this year after the US$8.5bn merger of Reliance Industries and The Walt Disney Company, creating a joint venture that controlled more than 120 channels as well as JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, which were merged in February.

The platform features a wide selection of TV shows, including Hollywood entertainment, plus a year-round calendar of unscripted/reality shows and Sparks, which spotlights India’s most popular creators.

Crucially, it is also home to premier cricket tournaments like ICC events, IPL and WPL, while it also features grassroots cricket through the Indian Street Premier League.

In addition, it houses English Premier League matches and the Wimbledon tennis tournament, plus domestic leagues like Pro Kabaddi and ISL.

The company said passing the landmark of 100 million subscribers reflects India’s digital revolution, the power of storytelling and the future of streaming.

JioHotstar subscription plans begin at 149Rs (US$1.74) for three months with ads, while an ad-free premium tier is available for 499Rs.

Kiran Mani, CEO of digital at JioHotstar parent company JioStar, said: “This milestone not only underscores India’s limitless potential but also strengthens our commitment to pioneering category-first experiences at an unprecedented scale.

“As we continue to innovate and expand, our focus remains on shaping the future of streaming, driving accessibility and unlocking infinite possibilities for a billion screens.”
