Crunchyroll strikes distribution pact with mobile operator O2 Telefónica in Germany

Korean webtoon Solo Leveling was among the most watched new shows on Crunchyroll in 2024

Sony-owned anime streamer Crunchyroll has struck a distribution pact with German mobile operator O2 Telefónica, giving the latter’s subscribers direct access to the service.

Under the agreement, O2 mobile and broadband customers can add a Crunchyroll subscription directly to their account, with billing managed by the telco.

Crunchyroll – a joint venture between US-based Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment Japanese subsidiary Aniplex – claims to have the largest dedicated anime library in the world, offering more than 30,000 episodes and over 12,000 hours.

Its hits included Solo Leveling, One Piece and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Germany is among the service’s largest markets in Europe.

“By becoming part of the O2 ecosystem, we are making it even easier for fans across the country to enjoy the best of anime and discover new series,” said Crunchyroll exec VP of emerging business Terry Li.
