C4 goes back behind bars with STV Studios for second season of Screw

Screw centres on a group of UK prison officers

Channel 4 in the UK has renewed its prison drama Screw, produced by STV Studios and distributed by Banijay Rights, for a second season.

Filmed in Glasgow, the series follows a group of prison officers and stars Nina Sosanya, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Faraz Ayub, Stephen Wight, Ron Donachie and Laura Checkley.

It comes after deals for the first season have so far been secured with BritBox in Australia, TVNZ in New Zealand and Spanish SVoD service Filmin, while Telus in Canada recently acquired both seasons of the show.

Commissioned by Caroline Hollick, Channel 4’s head of drama, and Gemma Boswell, Channel 4 commissioning editor, Screw was created by Rob Williams, who is lead writer and executive producer, with Roanne Bardsley and Ciara Conway completing the writing team.

Sarah Brown is executive producer for STV Studios and Nick Lambon is the producer.

Simon Cox, executive VP of content and acquisitions at Banijay Rights, said: “Combining an exceptional storyline about prison life, dark humour and a superb cast, Screw has been well received by audiences worldwide.”
