Buyers pick Berry in the Big City as WildBrain grows Strawberry Shortcake franchise

Berry in the Big City are produced by WildBrain’s Vancouver animation studio

The Strawberry Shortcake franchise continues to grow, with international broadcasters picking up Berry in the Big City and its forthcoming seasonal specials from WildBrain ahead of the launch of the series’ third season on Netflix and YouTube.

The new distribution partners for the first season of 2D-animated series Berry in the Big City include Pluto TV in the US and Canada, Showmax in Africa and Kanopy in the US, while S1-2 have been sold to Tfou Max and MyTF1 in France and MiniMini+ in Poland.

Canal Panda in Portugal has acquired S1-3 (120×4′) of the show, as well as four CG-animated seasonal specials (4×44′), which have also been acquired by TVNZ in New Zealand and MiniMini+.

Berry in the Big City and the seasonal specials are produced by WildBrain’s Vancouver animation studio with showrunner Michael Vogel (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic).

The series celebrates stories of diversity, creativity and friendship as Strawberry Shortcake heads to Big Apple City to find her big break and ‘bake the world a better place.’

S3 of Berry in the Big City launches on the official Strawberry Shortcake YouTube channel on July 15.

The seasonal specials will launch on Netflix worldwide later this year and also on WildBrain’s Family Channel in Canada.

Cookie Jar Entertainment acquired American Greetings’ Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears properties for US$195m in 2009 before being bought by Canada’s WildBrain, then known as DHX Media, in 2012.
