Beyond unveils post-merger slate

The original Pooch Perfect is hosted by Rebel Wilson

London-based distributor Beyond Rights has unveiled a slate of more than 200 hours of unscripted and kids’ content for spring 2021, including Australian dog-grooming format Pooch Perfect.

Originally produced by Beyond for Seven Network in Australia, 8×60’ series Pooch Perfect was adapted for BBC1 in the UK earlier this year.

Beyond has also partnered with several third-party prodcos for the first time to bring multiple new titles to its slate, following its merger with TCB Media Rights last year.

These include Saved & Remade (15×60’), which was produced for the UK’s BBC2 by Glasgow-based Red Sky Productions. In the format, craft experts use their skills to repurpose neglected items.

Billion Pound Cruise (4×60’), from UK prodco Fulwell 73, takes viewers aboard one of the world’s most luxurious cruisers.

UK prodco Voltage TV’s Countdown to War (3×60’) examines Adolf Hitler’s daily life in the 18 months leading up to the start of the Second World War.

From US firm Breakout Productions is wildlife series Aussie Snake Wranglers, while fellow nature show Who’s Afraid of the European Hamster (1×60’) is from French prodco Pernel Media. The latter is a one-off programme that puts a twist on the natural history format by focusing on the search for a giant hamster.

Impossible Repairs (6×60’) takes a look at some of the biggest repair jobs in the world and is produced by Canadian prodcos CMJ and Attraction Films.

More factual offerings include Kathy Burke: All Money (2×60’), from UK prodco Flicker Productions. The show was the best-performing new series in its slot for Channel 4 in 2019.

Red Sky Productions’ Saved & Remade

The Deadly Type with Candice Delong (10×60’), from Beyond Productions, sees former FBI investigator and psychologist Delong delve into what motivates a killer. The show is already available on SVoD platforms Discovery+ and YouTube TV.

Meanwhile, Love It or List It UK: Brilliant Builds (12×60’) features Phil Spencer and Kirstie Allsopp revisiting their favourite rebuilds from their renovation show Love It or List It. The show is from Spencer and Allsopp’s prodco Raise The Roof.

From the same franchise are Love It or List It: Quebec (52×60’), from Canada’s Big Coat Productions and Zone3, and season four of Love It or List It: Australia (10×60’).

Meanwhile, Beyond Productions’ MythBusters: There’s Your Problem (20×30’/10×60’) is a spin-off from the hit Mythbusters format in which entire episodes are dedicated to specific topics such as gravity or water.

Beyond is also shopping new seasons of previously featured unscripted content. This includes season six of Abandoned Engineering (12×60’) from London prodco Like A Shot Entertainment and S14 of Beyond’s Deadly Women (10×60’).

Also returning are Massive Engineering Mistakes S3 (10×60’), from UK prodco BriteSpark Films, plus Heavy Rescue: 401 S5 (18×60’) and Queen of the Oil Patch S2 (8×30’), both of which come from Canadian prodco Great Pacific Media.

Montreal prodco Pixcom International’s The Guild Garage (12×30’) returns for S2, while fellow Canadian show Carnival Eats (5×30’), from Alibi, is back for a second run. Also back for S2 is Vice Studios’ Drug Wars (3×60’).

Walking Britain’s Lost Railways S3 (8×60’), from UK prodco Rumpus Media and WPP-owned Motion Content, rounds out the renewals.

In terms of kids’ content, Manchester’s Saffron Cherry TV brings The World According to Grandpa (25×11’) to Beyond’s slate. In each episode, a grandfather takes one of his four grandchildren on a magical adventure.

Finally, Irish prodco Tailored Films’ Ace My Space (10×30’) is also on the slate. The show gives kids the opportunity to get a bedroom makeover, designed by either a friend or a family member.
