Apple TV takes worldwide rights to Mackenzie Crook’s BBC comedy Small Prophets

Small Prophets premiered on BBC iPlayer and BBC Two in February

Apple TV has picked up the worldwide streaming rights to Mackenzie Crook’s acclaimed comedy series Small Prophets.

The six-part series, which premiered on BBC iPlayer and BBC Two in February, will launch on Apple TV on October 7 outside of the UK. In the UK, it will land on Apple TV next year.

Created, written and directed by Crook, who also created the 2014 BBC Four drama Detectorists, Small Prophets follows a man who sets out to create homunculi – magical spirits that can predict the future – in the hope of once again seeing his darling Clea who disappeared seven years ago.

The Manchester-shot series stars Crook, Pearce Quigley, Lauren Patel, Sir Michael Palin, Sophie Willan, Jon Pointing and Paul Kaye.

It is produced by Crook’s Treasure Trove and Blue House Productions. UK-based Sphere Abacus, which is majority owned by Canada’s Bell Media, is the show’s international distributor.

Executive producers on the show include Crook and Lisa Thomas for Treasure Trove Productions and Christine Gernon and Emma Strain for Blue House Productions.
