A+E sends Pawn Stars abroad

Broadcasters in New Zealand, Canada and Europe have acquired History’s hit series Pawn Stars as part of a raft of deals secured by A+E Networks.

Historia and History TV in Canada, Box Channel in New Zealand, SF1 and SF2 in Switzerland, SBS in the Netherlands and Sanoma Entertainment in Finland have all bought the show.

Pawn Stars has been the main success story in a push towards character driven reality series on A+E’s History channel. The series, produced by Leftfield Pictures, goes inside a family-run pawn shop in Las Vegas and examines the history behind artefacts that are brought in.

Meanwhile, another A+E series called Dance Moms, has also sold around the world.

Lifestyle in Australia, SBS in Denmark, Viasat in Scandinavia and History in the UK are among those that have taken the series, which is based at the Abby Lee Dance Company where mothers push their daughters to the extreme.

A+E has also sold Beyond Scared Straight to European broadcasters and Nippon TV in Japan, and Monster in Laws to Sanoma in Finland, Gem TV in the Middle East and TVN Style in Poland.
