Ad Hoc Films co-founder Daniel Glynn exits to launch independent factual slate

Daniel Glynn, the veteran producer who founded Ad Hoc Films in 2005 alongside Mat Hodgson, has left the London-based company to set up an independent factual slate, in addition to a new venture in the vodcast space.

Glynn is producing and executive producing a handful of series and feature docs across sports, culture and the arts, with further news to be shared in the coming months.

His new venture in vodcasting and digital is being kept under wraps, although, according to a statement, he is working with an “established partner and brand to bring premium factual storytelling to new platforms and audiences.”

During his time at Ad Hoc, Glynn produced titles including I Am Duran, The United Way, Elizabeth Windsor, Lionesses: How Football Came Home, 48 Hours with Muhammad Ali and The Four Year Plan.

Following his departure, Ad Hoc will continue to push forward with an active development and production slate under the leadership of Hodgson.

“Premium factual is as complex and challenging as it has ever been. Risk appetites may be low, but in my experience that’s rarely the real obstacle – what it actually means is that every project must be nurtured, thoroughly developed and presented at its absolute best before it ever reaches a backer,” said Glynn.

“The fundamentals haven’t changed: audiences remain hungry for character-driven, cinematic storytelling, and there will always be a premium on incredible access and compelling talent. Navigating the gap between that creative ambition and what streamers, broadcasters and digital platforms will actually commit to has never required more skill or experience. That’s exactly the space I want to operate in.”

Mat Hodgson, who co-founded Ad Hoc with Glynn and will continue to lead the firm as CEO, said: “Dan has been a big part of Ad Hoc’s journey and I wish him all the best for what’s next.

“The company moves forward with real momentum; focused on bold, contemporary storytelling and the next phase of our evolution, as we expand our offering across all platforms, to include building on our recent success in the digital space.

“I’m incredibly excited about the direction we’re taking, together with the continued support of our valued production team and key collaborators.”
