International copros dominate TCCF Pitching selections

Taiwanese content agency TAICCA’s focus on coproduction in recent years has paid off, with most of the projects chosen to take part in the pitching sessions at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest next month being copros involving Taiwanese partners.

TCCF Pitching takes place in Taipei

More than 60% of the projects selected for next month’s Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF) Pitching are international coproductions led by or involving Taiwanese partners, the event’s organisers said, as the market sets out its line-up.

The 2026 TCCF will run from November 6 to 9 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Centre. The selections follow a significant increase in submissions from international partners, including from South Korea. Submissions from Taiwanese teams were also strong, and the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) said the results reflect its efforts over the past two years to encourage international collaboration.

The structure of the awards has changed this year. Each of the four main pitching sessions will now carry its own major prize of at least US$30,000, replacing the previous format in which a single top prize was contested across all four sessions. Together, the sponsored awards bring the total prize pool to more than TWD10m (US$306,000). Selected teams can also apply for up to TWD3m in early-stage development support through TAICCA’s Creative Content Development Program.

Leaf & Tree began as a novel chosen for TCCF’s Story segment

Several of the selected projects are adaptations of existing IP. Feature film A Sketch in Scarlet and series Leaf & Tree both began as novels previously chosen for TCCF’s Story segment and have now been selected to pitch in the Project segment. Mirror Entertainment’s Leaf & Tree (10×50’) is a period drama about an injured baseball player who helps the ghost of a boy who died a century ago on a journey home to recover forgotten memories.

Among the international titles in the Project segment, My Cringe Love Notebook is a copro between South Korea’s CJ ENM and Taiwan’s Yoosonn Entertainment. Sci-fi drama UFO Club is led by Japanese production company K2 Pictures, which recently distributed Hirokazu Kore-eda’s latest film, Look Back. Taiwan-Japan coproduction The Song About Green brings together Japan Academy Film Prize-winning screenwriter Kōsuke Mukai and director Nobuhiro Yamashita.

On the series side, Taiwan-US action series Bang & Burn is produced by US actress Gina Torres with Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Gamble. The 16th Night Kitchen, whose source material has readers in Japan and South Korea, pairs a producer of Japanese series Hanzawa Naoki with the original author to develop a Taiwanese adaptation. Taxi Driver, based on the South Korean series of the same name, is being reworked as a Taiwanese vigilante-justice story by the directing team behind The Victims’ Game.

The documentary selections include Parachute Kids, directed by S Leo Chiang, whose Island in Between was nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film.

In animation, Achugogo: Tale of the Spring Chaser comes from a directing team whose credits include work for Marvel and Toei Animation, and which has received three Emmy nominations. Cosmos Princess is being developed by the production team behind Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning animated feature Flow. Wilderness of the Greenriver, which won the TWD1m grand prize at the Golden Horse Film Project Promotion, is also among the selections.

The Story segment of TCCF is split into two categories: Fiction & Non-Fiction and Comics. In the first, Ka-shiang Liu’s Alpha Scorpii in Summer: Tadao Kano’s Experience Growing up in Taiwan recounts the life of a naturalist during the Japanese colonial era, while Kevin Chen’s latest novel, The Three Witches of Shetou, is set in Taiwan’s Changhua County.

In Comics, Op.9 The Swan, a Taiwanese science-fiction story about the value of life, saw its audio-drama adaptation win bronze at the 2026 New York Festivals Radio Awards. Underdog Reborn, the first webtoon adapted from PILI Puppetry, received an honourable mention in the comics category of the 2026 Best IP Awards.

Yi-wen Yen, director of Born for the Spotlight and a jury member for this year’s Story segment, said each work offers a glimpse into the questions its creator is most eager to explore. Kano producer Kuo-lun Hsu said he was drawn to adaptation projects, adding that compelling characterisation is key to dramatic tension.

TCCF positions itself as a platform connecting projects with partners across production, investment, sales and distribution.
