Netflix film boss Dan Lin becomes latest exec shown the door

Dan Lin is exiting his role as chairman of film at Netflix as the shake-up within its content team continues.

The exec, who joined the streaming giant in April 2024, is leaving on the heels of chief content officer Bela Bajaria, who was replaced by former Disney and 21 Century Fox exec Peter Rice last week.

Doug Belgrad, VP of film, was also part of the lay-offs last week that saw around 1,000 employees, 6% of the company, laid off in a major restructuring that comes on the eve of Netflix’s third-quarter earnings report.

A successor to Lin is expected to be named after Rice officially starts in the role next week.

During his tenure, Lin oversaw movies including Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Narnia movie, Remarkably Bright Creatures, People We Meet on Vacation, The Rip and Apex.

Lin founded the film production company Rideback, which produced the series adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender for Netflix. Before launching Rideback, he was senior VP of production for Warner Bros Pictures, overseeing titles such as Martin Scorsese’s The Departed.

Mike de Luca and Pam Abdy, the former film co-heads at Warner Bros Discovery who left amid the merger with Paramount Skydance earlier this month, are rumoured to be in contention for Lin’s role.
