Take Two, Sagafilm Nordic crime drama Hildur sells across Europe and Australia

Hildur is adapted from the novels by Satu Rämö

MIPCOM: Broadcasters including Canal+ in France, NPO in the Netherlands, SBS in Australia, RTV in Slovenia and LTV in Latvia have all acquired Nordic crime drama Hildur from Cineflix Rights.

The six-part English and Scandinavian-languages series is a coproduction between Finland’s Take Two Studios and Iceland’s Sagafilm, in association with Finnish finance company IPR.VC. It was made for Finnish streamer Ruutu and Icelandic platform Siminn TV, where it has already aired.

Cineflix Rights is the worldwide distributor and announced the deals at Mipcom. “Following its success in Finland and Iceland, we’re delighted to be rolling the series out internationally with these deals,” said Tim Mutimer, CEO of Cineflix Rights.

Mutimer added that the show exemplified the so-called Nordic Blue genre, which is not quite as dark and moody as the classic Nordic Noir dramas for which the region has become known.

The series is based on Satu Rämö’s novels, which Cineflix Rights said have sold more than two million copies in 30 territories. It is set in Iceland’s Westfjords region and follows Hildur, a detective in her hometown, whose two sisters disappeared on their way home from school 25 years earlier. Ebba Katrín Finnsdóttir plays Hildur.

Tinna Hrafnsdóttir (Vigdis, Descendants) directs. Matti Laine (Bordertown, The Paradise) is head writer, working with Margret Örnolfsdottir (Trapped, Prisoners). The exec producers are Sara Norberg and Eero Hietala for Take Two Studios, Kjartan Thor Thordarson and Tjörvi Thorsson for Sagafilm, and Timo Argillander, James Baker and Andrea Scarso for IPR.VC.

The NPO sale was brokered by Belgian distributor Lumiere, which holds Benelux rights.
