Sky orders documentary following trial of Duane Davis for Tupac’s murder

UK pay TV broadcaster Sky has commissioned a documentary following the landmark trial and conviction of Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis in August after he confessed to the murder of Tupac Shakur 30 years before.

The film is being directed by Bafta-winning and Emmy-nominated Marian Mohamed.

Produced by Passion Pictures, Propagate Content, and West Buttermilk, the documentary will follow the case from the first day of evidence through to sentencing in October.

The film features never-before-seen footage from the personal archive of Tupac’s family and exclusive interviews with Mopreme Shakur, Tupac’s brother, and members of Tupac’s inner circle.

The doc was ordered for Sky by Phil Edgar-Jones, exec director of unscripted originals at Sky, for Cécile Frot-Coutaz, chief advertising and content officer at CEO Sky Studios. The head of documentary commissioning is Hayley Reynolds and the commissioning editor for Sky is Bruce Fletcher.

“I want this film to give a voice to a family who are not just grieving but who have taken back agency in how the murder of Tupac is viewed,” said Mohamed. “Most importantly, I want this film to make people laugh and cry and argue. I want whoever watches this to emotionally connect with not just the story of how Tupac died but with who he was.”

Reynolds added: “Marian and the team have secured extraordinary access to his family and those closest to the case, capturing this historic moment as it unfolded and we’re excited to be bringing this powerful film to Sky Documentaries.”

The currently untitled film will air on Sky Documentaries and stream on NOW in 2027. Propagate Content is handling worldwide sales.
