AMC+ nabs North American rights to Euro copro drama Smilla’s Sense of Snow

Smilla’s Sense of Snow

AMC+ has picked up the US and Canadian rights to Smilla’s Sense of Snow, the Nordic crime drama series from Constantin Film and ITV Studios.

The project, based on a 1992 novel by Danish author Peter Høeg, is set in Copenhagen in 2040. It follows a woman whose investigation to the death of a young Inuit boy takes her from Denmark to Greenland, where she uncovers secrets and becomes embroiled in political power struggles.

The show premiered in Europe last year and was also picked up by SBS in Australia.

The six-part series is produced by Constantin Film in coproduction with Viaplay, ARD Degeto Film and Baltic Film Services. It is produced in association with ITV Studios, which holds worldwide rights. It is directed by British filmmaker and screenwriter Amma Asante, who executive produces alongside Oliver Berben, Robert Kulzer, Pipaluk K Jørgensen and Tina Hastings.

Filippa Coster-Waldau, Elyas M’Barek and Henry Lloyd-Hughes star alongside Amanda Collin, Morten Suurballe, Silver Wolfe, Set Sjöstrand and Alexandre Willaume.

The deal was brokered by ITV Studios’ senior VP of sales for the US and Latin America, Rob Kaplan.
