Warner, Turner ink multi-series deal

Warner Bros Animation (WBA) is rebooting Scooby-Doo and Bugs Bunny for a host of new series that will be aired exclusively by Time Warner-owned Turner Broadcasting System (TBS).

WBA will supply almost 450 half-hours of original programming, primarily mined from its huge library of classic titles, to TBS’s recently rebranded Boomerang channel.

The network was recently relaunched around the world as an all-animation, youth-skewing companion channel to Cartoon Network.

Be Cool Scooby-Doo! is a 22-minute animated comedy series that sees the Scooby gang working as hard to solve their own personal problems as they do to solve mysteries, and Bunniculas follows the paranormal comedy adventures of a vampire rabbit.

Wabbit: A Looney Tunes Production, meanwhile, sees Bugs Bunny go up against, and get the best of, classic characters like Yosemite Sam and Wile E Coyote, along with new foes.

The trio of shows will premiere this fall on all Boomerang channels worldwide, as well as on some Cartoon Network channels internationally.

The deal marks the first time original content will be developed for Boomerang, which previously aired classic episodes of Tom & Jerry, Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo.

The partnership also extends Boomerang’s access to the classic animation portfolio from the Hanna-Barbera, MGM and WBA collection, which is made up of 3,500 titles.

Christina Miller, president and general manager at Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang, said the new content would “engage fans across a variety of screens and platforms and further grow these timeless franchises.”
