YLE, NRK, SVT among pre-buyers for Starlings TV’s Sherlock & Daughter

Global buyers including Finland’s YLE, Norway’s NRK, Denmark’s DR and Sweden’s SVT have pre-bought Sherlock & Daughter, the international mystery thriller coproduced in the UK by Starlings Distribution’s affiliate Albion Television with coproduction partner StoryFirst.

Chris Philip

The project, which is scheduled to begin production in February, was also pre-sold to RUV in Iceland and Amedia in CIS, with Federation Studios also picking up multi-territory distribution rights.

SBS Television Australia previously acquired the series from Escapade Media, which has licensed the distribution rights in Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

Created and written by Brendan Foley (Cold Courage, The Man Who Died), with James Duff (The Closer, Major Crimes) showrunning and executive producing, the project follows a young American woman who, after witnessing her mother’s mysterious murder, learns her missing father may be Sherlock Holmes. After venturing to England, where they meet, they end up working together to solve a global conspiracy and to prove that she is the detective’s daughter.

Karine Martin

Foley and Duff are leading the creative team, which has added executive producer Dominic Barlow (A Discovery of Witches, Mr Selfridge), writer Micah War Dog Wright (They’re Watching, First Nations Comedy Experience) and writer Shelly Goldstein (Laverne & Shirley, Cold Courage).

Other executive producers on the project include Starlings Television president Chris Philip, CEO Karine Martin, StoryFirst MD Peter Gerwe and Tara Studios chairman Ivan Dunleavy, along with Escapade Media. Physical production in Ireland will be overseen by Cross Keys Productions.
