Warner Bros gives McIntyre’s Wheel a spin

Michael McIntyre fronts The Wheel

Warner Bros International Television Production (WBITVP) has been appointed as the exclusive global distributor of a new BBC1 entertainment format from Michael McIntyre’s Hungry McBear Media.

Launching in the UK tomorrow evening and hosted by entertainer McIntyre, The Wheel (10×60′) is a quiz format in which three contestants hope to answer their way to a fortune, guided by seven celebrity experts.

WBITVP will bring the format to international audiences through its network of local production companies, which cover 14 countries across Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Representing both format and finished tape rights outside of the UK and the US, WBITVP will also take the show to the international marketplace for the remaining territories where it does not operate.

The Wheel was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, director of BBC content; Kate Phillips, acting BBC1 controller; and Kalpna Patel-Knight, commissioning editor for entertainment.

It follows the success of BBC1 variety series Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, which has anchored the channel’s Saturday night schedule for five seasons since 2015.

The show is produced by Hungry McBear Media, which was set up in 2015 by McIntyre alongside Hungry Bear Media, and the executive producers for the prodco are Dan Baldwin and Tom Blakeson.
