Two Korean formats licenced to India’s Karman under Something Special pact

India’s Karman Unlimited has picked up two Korean formats

Indian producer/distributor Karman Unlimited has picked up two Korean formats: reality series Unforgettable Duet and unscripted comedy series Hit & Miss Tour.

The news was announced by Karman, launched last year by former Zee TV exec Sunita Uchil, and Seoul-based format agency Something Special, which secured the deal at this week’s Mipcom in Cannes.

Unforgettable Duet is an emotional musical series in which the families of dementia patients gather mementos and a favourite song to help their loved one recall the past. The format, created and produced by Something Special and Eun-seol Mo, creator of Netflix’s Culinary Class War, and coproduced with Studio Rudolph, premiered on South Korean network MBN last year.

Hit & Miss Tour, airing on SK Telecom subsidiary Channel S and produced by Media S, follows five famous comedians as they travel together and take on a series of comedic challenges.

Jin Woo Hwang, founder and president at Something Special, said: “Something Special is thrilled to announce these deals with such a wonderful company as Karman Unlimited in India. “We are continuing our mission to bring Korean formats to the world.”

Regarding the former CJ ENM format chief’s presence in Cannes, Hwang praised the work of the Korean content export agency Kocca: “They have been a great partner to facilitate our presence at Mipcom, and we look forward to soon announcing more deals we made at the market.”

Uchil, founder and CEO of Karman, said: “Karman Unlimited is excited to announce our very first deal with South Korea and to work with Jin and his team to bring two very different formats to India. The incredibly heart-felt Unforgettable Duet will resonate with families all over the country and Hit & Miss Tour is sure to bring much needed laughter to our audiences.”
