Rob Sharenow is president of programming at US cable outfit A+E Networks, with oversight of channels including A&E, History, Lifetime and Crime + Investigation.

He spoke with Clive Whittingham about the seismic events of the past 12 months, navigating the Covid-19 pandemic and production shutdown, the opportunities and challenges he sees for his company in 2021 as streaming increasingly dominates discussions and the need for greater representation in front of and behind the camera.

Leonardo is the story of the Italian Renaissance polymath and stars Poldark’s Aidan Turner in the lead role with The Good Doctor’s Freddie Highmore beside him.

The series comes from and was created by Big Light Productions’ CEO Frank Spotnitz and Sherlock’s Steve Thompson, made with Lux Vide for Rai Fiction, France Télévisions and RTVE, with Sony Pictures Television handling worldwide distribution.

Spotnitz and Lux Vide CEO Luca Bernabei spoke to Michael Pickard about their new take on the enigmatic character and how they managed to bring such a large-scale production through the pandemic at a time when Italy was the European Covid-19 hotspot.
