Telecinco brings Deal or No Deal back to Spanish screens after 12-year break

Spanish broadcaster Telecinco is developing a reboot of gameshow Deal or No Deal, to be presented once again by Jesús Vázquez and produced by Banijay Iberia-owned prodco Gestmusic.

The Spanish remake, titled Alla tu!, will mark the first time the format has been on air in 12 years in Spain, where it was initially broadcast by Telecinco between 2004 and 2008 before switching to sister channel Cuatro for a brief comeback in 2011.

The high-stakes game of risk and reward sees contestants choose from numerous sealed boxes containing various amounts of cash. They must then decide whether to accept an offer of cash from ‘the banker’ in exchange for what is in the box.

The Banijay-owned format was launched in the Netherlands in 2002 and has since been commissioned in more than 80 international territories.

It is also being rebooted in the UK, where Banijay-owned Remarkable Entertainment is producing for commercial broadcaster ITV and its streaming platform ITVX.

Tinet Rubira, managing director of Gestmusic, said the company will be “adding new twists” to the format.

Gestmusic has produced over 100 formats in Spain such as Money Drop, while also creating shows like Your Face Sounds Familiar and National Parody.

“Deal or No Deal is in rude health,” said Lucas Green, chief content officer, operations at Banijay. “There are extremely long-running series in territories like the Netherlands and big, bold returns in markets including the UK and Spain.”
