The Roku Channel acquires Winnifred Jong’s Canadian digital comedy Tokens

Season one of Tokens won six Canadian Screen Awards

Roku’s AVoD service The Roku Channel has acquired season two of Canadian digital comedy series Tokens.

The 8×8’ season will launch January 10 on the platform, which is available in the US, UK and Canada.

Written, directed and executive produced by Winnifred Jong, the project follows actors who are hired by production companies at the last minute to fulfil their diversity quotas. Wong produces the series alongside Trinni Franke.

The Roku Channel launch comes after the show was made available via iTunes and Apple TV on November 29. All deals were negotiated by Toronto-based LevelFilm.

The cast for S2 includes Connie Wang, Jessica Greco, Sedina Fiati, Ryan Allen, Shelley Thompson, Christina Song and Russell Yuen.

The series, which garnered six Canadian Screen Awards for its first season, is made with the financial participation of the Canada Media Fund and the Bell Fund, as well as Ontario Creates.
