Spain says hola to more Pocoyo

The 3D CGI series (52×7′), coproduced by Spain’s Zinkia Entertainment and the UK’s Granada International, has been acquired by Spanish broadcaster TVE, Spanish pay-TV channel Boomerang and Portugal’s RTP.

The programme, which recently won Best TV Production at the Annecy Animation Festival, is scheduled to air on both Spanish channels in the Autumn, broadcasting twice on weekdays on TVE2.

Portugal’s RTP2 will also air the animated short twice a day, Monday to Friday. Head of acquisitions at RTP, Fatima Caravaco, said: “Pocoyo stands out as a special series which will appeal to our discerning pre-school audience.”

Zinkia Entertainment’s MD, Victor M Lopez, added that he was pleased to be partnering with the trio for the launch of Pocoyo in Iberia. “The series has received strong commercial and critical acclaim around the world and we are confident that it will deliver strong ratings in our home markets of Spain and Portugal,” he said.

Elsewhere in the world, UK commercial broadcaster CiTV has just commissioned a further (52×7′) episodes, and the series has also been sold to Canada’s Treehouse, Australia’s ABC, Disney Pan Asia, Germany’s Kika, Nick Jr in France, WOWOW in Japan, New Zealand’s TVNZ and Alter Channel in Greece.
