Shaq slam-dunks Genius Brands deal

Shaq’s Garage will launch on Kartoon Channel! in 2022

Shaquille O’Neal has invested in US children’s content company Genius Brands International (GBI), which is producing an animated series featuring the basketballer-turned-businessman.

GBI and ABG Entertainment, a division of global brand owner, marketing and entertainment company Authentic Brands Group, are working on animated comedy/action-adventure series Shaq’s Garage with the NBA legend.

Through the partnership, O’Neal is also becoming a shareholder in GBI. Financial details and the size of O’Neal’s stake were not disclosed.

The show is set to launch on GBI’s AVoD service Kartoon Channel! in early 2022 and will depict the secret adventures of O’Neal’s collection of cars, trucks and automobiles.

All the vehicles in Shaq’s Garage have unique attributes, intellects and skills. The 15-time NBA All-Star will voice the lead vehicle.

“Ever since I was a kid, I have been fascinated by cars. We plan to showcase the most amazing, tricked-out assortment of vehicles that can only be found in my garage,” said O’Neal, who will executive produce alongside GBI, PRP and ABG Entertainment.

“They will all have larger-than-life personalities, larger-than-life missions and, of course, larger-than-life sound systems. One of our cars is a vehicle missing a wheel, but she is as strong, fast, and smart as any other vehicle. This will be a kids’ show which will highlight inclusivity for all.”

O’Neal was awarded numerous top honours during 19 years of playing professional basketball. Since retiring from the sport in 2011, he has become an entrepreneur, sports analyst, DJ, restaurateur and brand ambassador.
