Screen NSW welcomes next generation of TV crew in scheme to address Australian skills shortage

Australian funding agency Screen NSW has named the cohort of 85 people chosen to take part in the inaugural Crew Development Program, launched to tackle a shortage of skilled production crew nationally.

The initiative was first unveiled as part of the three-year NSW Screen and Digital Games Strategy, launched in June last year.

It identified the need for training in the areas of production accounting, location departments, production management, post-production supervision, costume and art departments, as previously reported.

Paid production placements and mentorship for entry-level and mid-career crew from key priority areas have been supported by Screen NSW in alliance with Australian Film TV and Radio School, TAFE NSW and the National Institute of Dramatic Art.

Kylie Munnich, executive director of Screen NSW, said: “The Crew Development Program was born out of a very real and urgent need for skilled crew on screen projects nationally, and a lack of representation in these below-the-line roles.

“Through this programme we have identified and supported 85 talented practitioners who will help shape the future of screen production in NSW, ensuring we remain the leading state for screen in Australia. I congratulate every recipient and look forward to seeing the valuable contributions they will make to the screen industry into the future.”
