Rising Star’s turn in Germany

MIPCOM: A German broadcaster has bagged buzzworthy new Israeli format Rising Star from Keshet International.

RTL Television has licensed the format, which debuted on Channel 2 in Israel last month.

The interactive talent show drew 46% share on its debut episode, has seen its associated app downloaded 1.2 million times and has so far generated 2.3 million votes out of Israel’s eight million population.

“Rising Star has all the elements of classic music talent shows but takes the well-known genre of casting shows to a new level,” said RTL programme manager Frank Hoffmann.

“Both for the candidates and the audience, it is exciting, emotional and includes new interactivity. Audiences are part of the show and thus still closer to the action through the unprecedented integration of social media.”

Keshet launched the format here in Cannes this week and has inked licence deals with broadcasters Rossiya 1 in Russia and M6 in France. The format was devised by Tedy Productions.
