Rainmaker distributes Viaplay originals

Family drama Two Sisters

London-based distributor Rainmaker Content has agreed a deal with Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT) to distribute selected original commissions from its Viaplay streamer internationally.

The deal excludes territories where Viaplay is available such as Scandinavia, Latvia and Estonia. Four series are included in the initial agreement, two of which have already launched on Viaplay.

Big Lars (8×45’) is a spin-off of Danish comedy series Klovn, while Thunder in My Heart (8×23’) is a comedy starring Swedish actress Amy Deasismont.

Also included in the deal are family drama Two Sisters (8×23’) and coming-of-age crime series What About Monica (8×25’).

Greg Phillips, co-CEO and founder of Rainmaker Content said: “NENT has a growing line-up of extremely strong Viaplay originals with wide international appeal. We are a young company with an exceptionally experienced and enthusiastic sales team and know that we will do a great job for NENT bringing these shows to the global stage. We are honoured to have been entrusted with this new role.”

NENT has been changing its strategy and offloading its production companies and distributors to focus on the international roll-out of Viaplay and original drama production for the service.

Earlier this month it offloaded 12 of its production companies around Europe to Fremantle, having previously sold its NENT Studios UK distribution business to All3Media.

NENT is aiming for 4.5 million international subscribers to Viaplay by 2025 and has 40 original drama premieres planned for 2021.
