Nordic buyers TV2, SVT shop for scripted and unscripted pre-sales at BBC Studios

SVT has acquired a package of BBCS content including Hidden Planet

Sweden’s SVT and TV2 in Norway have pre-bought new unscripted and scripted programming from BBC Studios ahead of Mipcom later this month.

The Swedish public service broadcaster has struck a deal with the commercial arm of the BBC for an unscripted package that includes three forthcoming landmark titles from BBC Studios Natural History Unit Productions: Blue Planet III, Green Planet II and Hidden Planet.

SVT has pre-bought the upcoming BBC Studios Specialist Factual title The Diary of Anne Frank (working title), in addition to the new series of A Life in Ten Pictures, Where the Wild Men Are with Ben Fogle and long-running series Antiques Roadshow.

Doctor Foster S3 has been picked up by TV2

SVT has also acquired a scripted package focused on BBC Studios returning dramas. This includes pre-sales for Sherwood season three, Unforgotten S7 and Silent Witness S30, alongside existing seasons of Call the Midwife, The Chelsea Detective, Sherwood, Unforgotten and The Chelsea Detective.

TV2, meanwhile, has taken S3 of Doctor Foster and Call the Midwife: Sisters in Arms as part of a scripted package deal with BBC Studios.

The agreement with TV2 also includes pre-sales of Deadpoint and Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence, which launched at this year’s BBC Studios Showcase event.

Ghosts: The Possession of Button House also features on BBCS’s Mipcom slate

Other seasons heading to TV2 include earlier seasons of Call the Midwife, Death in Paradise, Doctor Foster, Happy Valley, The Split and The Split: Barcelona. All titles will be available to Norwegian audiences via SVoD service TV2 Play.

BBC Studios’ Mipcom slate includes Hidden Planet, Shy & Lola, Time S3, Doctor Foster S3, Call the Midwife: Sisters in Arms, Ghosts: The Possession of Button House and Bill’s Included.

Zai Bennett, CEO and chief creative officer at BBC Studios Global Content, said: “These agreements with SVT and TV2 Norway demonstrate early confidence in our upcoming offering and reflects the trust buyers place in our ability to combine exciting new commissions with a catalogue of enduring quality and appeal.”

At Mipcom, Bennett will be joined by BBC chief content officer Kate Phillips and BBC Studios CEO for brands and licensing Shelley Macintyre for a keynote address, titled From Idea to Global IP: Building Brands That Last, on Tuesday October 13.
