Nine secures new sports rights deals with NBL and Aussie Netball

Australia’s Nine Entertainment has locked in NBL broadcast rights

Australia’s Nine Entertainment is ramping up its sports rights acquisitions activity, securing a new deal with the National Basketball League (NBL), to lock in NBL broadcasts for two years.

Nine’s new deal seals the Australian FTA broadcast rights and includes the broadcast of two NBL games per week live and free across the 9Network and 9Now.

Primary subscription rights to the NBL in Australia are retained by ESPN under a three-year deal, which allows the platform to air every match live.

The NBL partnership is also key to Nine’s wider Olympic strategy, building towards its coverage of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

The new NBL deal follows Nine’s announcement last week that it had won the exclusive broadcast rights for Australian Netball.  The new five-year partnership with Netball Australia, secures all broadcast and streaming rights to Suncorp Super Netball, all Australian Diamonds matches and the Netball World Cup Sydney 2027, from January 1, 2027.
