Neshama, Zanzibar adapting Irish novel series The Inishowen Mysteries for TV
Canadian production and distribution company Neshama Entertainment is partnering with Edwina Forkin’s Ireland-based Zanzibar Films to adapt Andrea Carter’s novel series The Inishowen Mysteries, C21 can reveal.
The companies are in development on a scripted miniseries adaptation of the murder mystery book series, with plans to begin shooting in Ireland later this year.
The team behind the project, which is being structured as a Canada/Ireland coproduction, will include Neshama Entertainment president and CEO Arnie Zipursky, veteran producer Forkin and writer and producer Ralph Christians.
The Inishowen Mysteries follows a tenacious yet evasive solicitor in County Donegal who throws herself into her work to avoid dealing with her own issues, but also to atone for the fateful role she played in her sister’s murder.
The sixth instalment in the book series, Death Writers, was published in 2023. Other titles in the series include Death At Whitewater Church, Treacherous Strand and Murder at Greysbridge.
Forkin has produced more than 40 film and TV projects through Zanzibar Films (Peter O’Toole: Along the Sky Road to Aqaba, The Christmas Break, Clueless in Ireland) and is also a partner in the international TV prodco Treehouse Media. Meanwhile, Christians’ credits include the Jack Taylor crime feature franchise Icelandic/German action-adventure thriller Operation Napoleon. Christians also founded the Hamburg-based animation studio Ulysses Films/Studio Rakete.
Fox Entertainment-owned studio MarVista Entertainment is a shareholder in Neshama Entertainment, which was founded by Zipursky in 2018. The company’s credits include Hallmark Channel original series The Way Home, which has been renewed for a third season.
“From its captivating blend of legal intrigue and thrilling crime to its otherworldly Irish landscape, Inishowen promises to be a bold new drama series. We’re thrilled to have such strong creative partners along for the ride,” said Zipurksy.
