Mike Young & Scholastic animate Horrible Histories

LA-based Welsh animation outfit Mike Young Productions is in production on Horibble Histories, a MYP/Scholastic syndicated series, as well as a pair of toons, Ollie and Troop 318.

Based on the series of illustrated children's books by Terry Deary, Tony De Saulles and Martin Brown, the 13×30' Horrible Histories follows time-travellers Stitch and Mo as they experience history first-hand. Mike Young (SuperTed) executive produces while his son Andrew directs.

Also in production is Troop 318, a 13×30' animation featuring the voices of Kel Mitchell (Nickelodeon's Keenan & Kel) and his wife Tyisha. The show is set in the hard urban environment of Mitchell's childhood.

MYP has also signed up with Liverpool-based writers Andrew and Ian Ross to produce Ollie (13×30'). The show follows the eponymous little submarine whose job it is to protect all the creatures who live in a child's bathtub.

Further down MYP's development slate is Panshel, another Scholastic co-production this time about a cute giant panda. (The two co-producers also make Clifford the Big Red Dog for PBS.)

Also, a script deal with Dreamworks has been signed, but it's too early for any details. Another Mike Young co-production, Butt Ugly Martians, is due to air across US syndication in September.
