Long-serving Viaplay Group exec Vanda Rapti leaves company

Vanda Rapti, executive VP of Viaplay Select and content distribution at Viaplay Group, has left the Sweden-headquartered company.

Vanda Rapti

Rapti has led Viaplay Group’s global content sales, branded content partnerships and international SVoD channels since 2023, having been with the Scandinavian media outfit for more than two decades.

Her departure was reported by Broadcast earlier this week. A Viaplay spokesperson declined to comment.

Previously, Rapti was executive VP and chief commercial officer for North America at Viaplay and, before that, senior VP and group head of acquisitions, content distribution and partnerships.

Rapti joined Viaplay in 2003 when it was part of Modern Times Group (MTG). The company split from MTG in 2018, becoming Nordic Entertainment Group, before rebranding as Viaplay Group in 2022.

The business came close to collapse in 2023, following a period of rapid, but ultimately misjudged, international expansion during the subscription streaming boom.

Since shuttering its direct-to-consumer platforms internationally, except in its core Nordic markets, Viaplay has focused on carriage partnerships with third-party platforms and content distribution deals.

It recently completed the sale of its Dutch streaming and broadcasting operations to DPG Media-owned Videoland for €142m (US$162m) as the group continues to refocus on its core Nordic markets.
