Lion Forge partners Folktellers Studios to produce Unknown Guidebook toon

Missouri-based Lion Forge Animation is partnering with Detroit’s Folktellers Studios to develop and produce an animated series based on Josef Bastian’s award-winning book series Excerpts from an Unknown Guidebook.

Lion Forge Animation, which is behind the Oscar-winning animated short film Hair Love, will oversee development and production of the book series, which follows a group of teenage storytellers as they cross worlds and dimensions to fight the forces of darkness.

Other upcoming projects from Lion Forge Animation, which is led by founder David Steward II, include Young Love, a spin-off series of Hair Love for HBO Max; Heiress with BRON; Rise Up, Sing Out, executive produced by Tariq ‘Black Thought’ Trotter and Ahmir ‘Questlove’ Thompson, for Disney; and several projects with Imagine Kids + Family, including Chippy Hood, First Step and Bugtron.

In November, Lion Forge partnered with Toronto-based BulbKIDZ to develop and produce 2D animated comedy series Alien Baby Sitters.
