BulbKIDZ, Lion Forge team up for comedy toon Alien Baby Sitters

2D animated comedy series Alien Baby Sitters

Toronto kids’ content company BulbKIDZ and St Louis-based Lion Forge Animation Studio are developing and producing 2D animated comedy series Alien Baby Sitters.

The project has also been joined by a pair of industry veterans: Kaaren Lee Brown, a creator, writer and producer who is the showrunner for season four of Netflix’s Super Monsters and whose original concept Smash! will debut on HBO Max; and Robert N Skir, whose animated TV credits include X-Men, Disney’s Gargoyles, Jim Henson’s Dog City and Netflix’s Super Monsters.

Alien Baby Sitters, aimed at kids aged six to 11, is being developed as a 26×22’ series, with the companies planning to have completed production by spring 2023.

The show follows three tweenage best friends who use their babysitting skills – and the mysterious abilities of four adorable and indestructible alien babies – to protect a small town from a group of villainous mad scientists.

Lion Forge Animation Studio was a coproducer on the short film Hair Love, which won the Oscar for best animated short in 2019.

BulbKIDZ was launched earlier this year by former 41 Entertainment execs Nancy Koff and Kiersten Halstead. Most recently, the company picked up the global distribution rights to a pair of preschool animation series, TuTiTu and NuNi, from Israel’s Twist Animation Studio.

“Alien Baby Sitters is a hilarious mashup of Rugrats meets Power Puff Girls, with a hint of Dexter’s Laboratory,” says Halstead, co-founder and executive VP of creative development and global operations at BulbKIDZ.

“We’re taking the global appeal of these classic successes that lacked representation during their heyday and making our original series relevant to today’s landscape. What better way to achieve this than to work with the trailblazing, award-winning Lion Forge.”
