Lego Masters builds brand in China

The US version of the show, Lego Masters USA

Chinese broadcaster Shenzhen TV has commissioned a local version of competition reality format Lego Masters.

Originally created by the UK’s Tuesday’s Child Television and the Lego Group, Lego Masters tasks two teams of Lego lovers with creating complex builds to impress judges.

In China, the format, which is distributed globally by Banijay, will be produced by Long Qing Media.

Elsewhere, Lego Masters recently sold to broadcasters including TVNZ2 in New Zealand, Atresmedia in Spain and TV2 in Norway.

The China deal takes the total number of adaptations to 15 since the UK version began in 2017, while a US version began on Fox in early 2020.

Simon Cox, senior VP of acquisitions at Banijay Rights, said: “Taking proven hit Lego Masters to a market like China marks a milestone moment for this incredibly warm, creative and joyful competition show that continues to build global momentum.”
