Kiwi teen dramedy series and TikTok hit n00b acquired by Netflix Australia

n00b was developed for television by Great Southern

New Zealand teen dramedy series n00b, developed for television by Great Southern, has been acquired by Netflix Australia.

The series is set in 2005 in regional Gore, New Zealand and follows the social demise of a popular teen jock Nikau Bennett, who is outed to the whole school after his secret other life as a gay FanFiction writer is exposed.

n00b was co-created by Victoria Boult and Rachel Fawcett and originally developed as a digital series for TikTok, funded via the Every Voice program, a joint initiative between NZ On Air, Screen Australia and TikTok.

Once launched in mid-2022, the online series garnered over 10k followers 1.5m views on TikTok within two weeks.

Production company Great Southern partnered with the creators, adapting the TikTok series for television in a 6×22’ season with NZ on Air investment.

The series was commissioned by Warners Bros Discovery-owned Three and ThreeNow, premiering last year in New Zealand. Oble Entertainment handles international distribution for the series. The series was also one of 17 global titles selected to be showcased this week at the Berlinale festival.
