Jensen Ackles to star in MGM+ adaptation of John Sandford’s Rules of Prey

Streamer MGM+ has greenlit a crime thriller series based on American author and former journalist John Sandford’s book Rules of Prey, with Jensen Ackles starring.

Rules of Prey is the first book in Sandford’s 35-book Prey series. It follows a former detective from the Minneapolis Police Department who is drawn out of seclusion to investigate a series of confounding murders designed to send a message specifically to him.

MGM+s eight-episode adaptation has been created by Bruce Terris under his overall deal with MGM. Terris also serves as showrunner and exec producer on the show, which is being produced by MGM Television and Take 5 Productions, with filming beginning this month in Toronto.

Ackles (Supernatural, The Boys) stars in the lead role and will also exec produce, while Sandford serves as coproducer.

Other exec producers include Take 5 president and CEO John Weber, Charles Gogolak, Matt Leipzig, Howard Braunstein, Michael Jaffe, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra and Daniel Sackheim, who also directs the pilot and episode two.

Rules of Prey will premiere on MGM+ in the US, UK, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Chile.
