HBO Max’s Proud, TF1’s All Shapes of Us among big winners at Series Mania awards

Shows from Poland, the UK and Sweden were among the winners at the Series Mania Festival awards, which capped a week of events that also saw more than 5,000 industry professionals from 75 countries gather in the French city of Lille for Series Mania Forum.

In the international competition, Polish HBO Max series Proud won the grand prize, with Dennis Kelly winning best screenplay for BBC series Waiting for the Out. Amanda Jansson was named best actress for SVT in Sweden’s My Brother and Proud’s Ignacy Liss was best actor.

TF1’s All Shapes of Us (Grandiose) took home the best series prize in the French competition. Manon Kneusé was named best actress for Arte’s Camarades and Karim Leklou was best actor for Arte and RTBF’s Eldorado. Amine Bouhafa won best original score for HBO Max’s Privilèges.

Mackenzie Crook’s BBC comedy Small Prophets won best series in the international panorama, with star Lauren Patel winning best actress. Arne Feldhussen was named best director for German comedy The Flaws and Maxime Le Flaguais from Québec’s Welcome to Kingston-Falls won best actor. A student jury gave their prize to TVP in Poland’s Variola Vera.

The audience award was presented to Australian broadcaster ABC’s Dustfall.

In the shortform category, Ayer’s Cliff from ICI Tou.tv Extra in Canada won best series, while the student jury honoured Arte’s La Dernière Heure.

Series Mania said about 112,000 attended the festival this year, up 4,000 on last year, while 9,000 students were involved in its various educational initiatives.

The industry-focused Series Mania Forum welcomed 5,200 people from 75 countries, with a record 97 exhibitors. The event also saw the signing of the Council of Europe Convention for the coproduction of series, with France, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Poland and Portugal joining this first legal framework dedicated to the independent coproduction of TV and streaming series.

In 2027, Series Mania Festival will take place from March 19 to 26, with Series Mania Forum set for March 23-25.
