Guy Gadney sets up AI outfit Charismatic.studio to create ‘broadcast-quality content’

Former Foxtel and BBC Worldwide executive Guy Gadney has officially launched an AI production studio to meet “rapidly increasing demand” for the tech.

Charismatic.studio is the latest addition to the Charismatic Group, the London-based portfolio of companies set up by TV executive-turned-AI entrepreneur Gadney.

It joins Charismatic.ai, the start-up launched last year to create microdramas for social media and video-sharing platforms such as TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

Group CEO Gadney said Charismatic.studio will tap into “global demand for high-efficiency, broadcast-quality content” by providing full-service generative AI production pipelines for international networks and production companies.

Gadney said the company is already working with TV companies on scripted series, unscripted programming and microdramas but details have not yet been announced.

Unlike experimental AI tools, Gadney said the studio’s output is engineered specifically to meet broadcast-quality standards, while offering high-end visual effects at a fraction of the cost of legacy post-production houses.

The technology also unlocks previously “impossible” creative concepts, allowing creators to explore ambitious narratives previously sidelined by budget constraints, Gadney added.

The move comes after Gadney spoke at C21’s Content London event last year about the potential of the tech and demonstrated Charismatic.ai’s Story Engine tool to delegates in a series of workshops.

“The industry is at a pivot point where AI is no longer just a buzzword but a fundamental requirement for staying competitive,” said Gadney.

“Charismatic.studio isn’t just about doing things faster; it’s about empowering creators and networks to produce high-calibre stories that were previously financially or logistically out of reach.

“We are providing the bridge between cutting-edge technology and the art of storytelling. Alongside some great second-unit content we now have two animated features currently in pre-production and a few campaigns for creative agencies, so we are thrilled by the reaction of our early clients.”
