Graham Norton launches visualised podcast on YouTube with producer Listen

Graham Norton, right, with long-time friend Maria McErlane

Chat show host veteran Graham Norton has launched his first visualised podcast on YouTube and Spotify after teaming up with Maria McErlane and The Traitors: Uncloaked producer Listen.

Norton has reunited with McErlane, his friend for over 30 years, for Wanging On, which sees the pair tackle listeners’ problems, sent in via voice note, with sometimes serious, but mostly-nonsense advice.

From workplace woes to family drama and romantic disasters, no problem is too big, too small or too strange.

The duo first appeared on the TV show Carnal Knowledge in the 1990s, with McErlane going on to appear on Norton’s BBC Radio 2 show for over a decade where they were listened to by millions each week, before moving to Virgin Radio.

Norton is best known as the host of long-running TV chat show The Graham Norton Show, which has aired on the BBC since 2007.

Listen, meanwhile, has been an early adopter of the visualised podcast format, with shows such as The Traitors: Uncloaked, a companion piece to the BBC primetime hit, as it seeks to bridge traditional broadcast talent with non-traditional media.

The company merged with fellow podcast outfits Platform Media and Goldhawk Productions last year.

“It’s relaxed, it’s ridiculous, and it’s what Maria and I have always loved doing – chatting nonsense and digging into people’s drama,” said Norton, who launched the podcast on YouTube and Spotify on July 7, with new episodes released weekly.

“Wanging On is unlike anything I’ve done before – instead of just talking at the audience, the podcast lets Maria and I have a real conversation with them.”
