German drama Unbroken goes global after deals inked by ZDF Studios

Aylin Tezel in German drama Unbroken

Broadcasters and streamers in Europe, the US, Australia and Latin America have picked up award-winning German cop drama Unbroken (6×45’), which stars Aylin Tezel (Breaking Horizons).

Among the buyers of the ZDFneo original are streamer Turkcell in Turkey and Polish OTT platform CDA Polska. Broadcasters to have acquired the show include SBS (Australia), Brazil’s Globo TV, Polar+ in France and the three Baltic channels LTV, LRT and EER.

Global Series Network has also taken the show for the UK and US markets where Unbroken will be featured on the foreign-language drama service Walter Presents, the show’s distributor ZDF Studios has announced.

Travel media firm Spafax has licensed the drama for inflight entertainment in Germany, Qatar and Oman while TF1-owned French production company Newen has secured the remake rights.

Unbroken follows the story of a female detective (Tezel) on a search to find her newborn baby after she is kidnapped while pregnant. It has aired in Germany on ZDFneo and streamer ZDFmediathek.

“Unbroken has been one of our most successful scripted titles over the last year,” said Sebastian Krekeler, director of drama at ZDF Studios, which owns Network Movie, the Cologne-based production company behind the show.
