FX lines up Little Dicky comedy

Dave Burd (aka Lil Dicky)

FX in the US has commissioned a half-hour comedy based on the life of rapper and comedian Dave Burd, better known as Lil Dicky.

The first season of the as-yet-untitled Lil Dicky series centres on a suburban neurotic in his late 20s who has convinced himself he is destined to become one of the greatest rappers of all time. To convince the world of this fact, he must first convince his friends to help make his dream come true.

Co-created by Burd and Jeff Schaffer (Curb Your Enthusiasm), the show is being produced by FX Productions.

Burd and Schaffer exec produce alongside Saladin Patterson (The Big Bang Theory), actor Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat Productions, Burd’s manager Mike Hertz, Greg Mottola, Marty Bowen, and SB Projects trio Scooter Braun, James Shin and Scott Manson. The programme was ordered by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, presidents of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions.

“Not only has Dave Burd cemented his place in the rap community, but he’s now poised to take over TV with his infectious comedic sensibility,” said Grad. “We’re thrilled to have partnered with an impressive creative team to bring the story of Lil Dicky to TV audiences.”

Burd added: “I love making people laugh, it’s my favourite thing ever. And even though I’m still fully in love with and committed to my career as a rapper, I’m excited to write jokes that don’t need to rhyme every time. Ugh, that rhymed.”
