Fulcrum Media Finance appoints Sally Caplan as exec chair and Zach Parker as new CEO
Australian TV financier Fulcrum Media Finance has restructured its executive ranks with the departure of chief executive Tim Phillips, who is leaving the screen financier for an undisclosed role in the production sector.
Zach Parker, Fulcrum’s current head of legal and business affairs has been promoted to take the helm as new chief in May. Additionally, screen industry stalwart Sally Caplan will join the organisation in the newly created position of executive chair at Fulcrum.
Parker joined Fulcrum four years ago and has guided the financing of more than 150 Australian film and television projects including Ludo Studio’s The Bluey Movie, television series Last King of the Cross from Helium Pictures, Fake from Kindling Pictures and the upcoming co-production One More Shot from Truce and Good Thing Productions.
In tandem with Phillips, Parker also navigated Fulcrum’s entry into the gaming market and Digital Games Tax Offset financing. Prior to joining Fulcrum, Parker was an entertainment lawyer at Simpsons Solicitors.
Caplan brings more than three decades of screen sector experience to Fulcrum, including eight years as Screen Australia’s head of content, which she left in 2022.
Her career across the industry includes roles in film production finance, development, acquisition, production and distribution in the UK and Australia. Her positions include MD of eOne International, where she set up and oversaw its international film sales operations out of London and head of the premiere fund at the UK Film Council. Caplan currently serves as screen consultant and is a board director of the Melbourne International Film Festival.
Fulcrum Media Finance, director Barry Sechos said: “Sally is a hugely experienced and beloved figure in the Australian film and television marketplace and brings a wealth of experience in film financing and production.”
The board of Fulcrum thanked Phillips for his contribution to Fulcrum’s ongoing growth and stated that Parker’s track record made him a “natural replacement as CEO, with his deep understanding of production finance, passion for the sector and his strong relationships with the industry.”
Sechos and Emile Sherman Fulcrum’s founder, continue as Fulcrum Media Finance directors.
