France’s Ellipse closes international deals

On top of two sales into China, France’s Ellipse Distribution has inked deals for drama and a format with the Japan, South Africa and Europe.

Japan’s NHK Digital channel has picked up literary adaptation Carott Top, which was produced by Expand Drama. Starring Richard Bohringer and Fanny Cottençon, the one-off is based on the novel by Jules Renard.

South African broadcaster SABC opted from TV movie Fatou The Malian. The film was produced by Cineteve and has so far won a Golden Fipa in 2001 and the Europa for Fiction Prize in 2002.

Ellipse also concluded a deal for Canal+ short format Kelif & Deutsch, Looking For A Job (90×2’30”) with Endemol Italy.

Meanwhile, Liberty Media’s Encore International is taking two Ellipse titles to China this year. Following a deal in Cannes last week, Ellipse series A Long Hot Summer (4×60′) and movie Sissi will be airing on Encore’ daily block, Everyday Jiayi, on CCTV-8 in June.
