France Télévisions greenlights S2 of animated preschool series Trotro & Zaza

French public broadcaster France Télévisions has ordered a second season of animated shortform preschool series Trotro & Zaza.

Season one of the series, produced by France’s Ellipse Animation and Italy’s Studio Campedelli, both part of Média-Participations, premiered earlier this year. According to Ellipse, season one received more than 13 million views on France Télévisions’ children’s service Okoo, breaking launch records for the digital platform.

Trotro & Zaza is based on Bénédicte Guettier’s series of books about two little donkey siblings, which first started publishing in 2000. They were initially adapted into an animated series in 2004.

The latest adaptation of the IP comprises three-minute episodes that capture moments of daily life and also airs on Rai Yoyo in Italy and RTS in Switzerland. It explores developmental themes such as autonomy, self-confidence, empathy and creativity. Like S1, S2 will comprise 78 episodes.
