Foxtel partners Mew Productions to prepare Deadliest Dinners with Mario Kalpou

Adventurer and chef Mario Kalpou fronts Deadliest Dinners

Australia pay TV operator Foxtel has commissioned a food and travel documentary series titled Deadliest Dinners in a coproduction with Mew Productions.

The eight-part series follows Australian-born extreme outdoor adventurer, restaurateur and chef Mario Kalpou as he visits dangerous, remote regions to find deadly creatures that he turns into delicacies.

Kalpou’s mission is to educate and reconnect people to their food sources and he works with local experts, Indigenous custodians and regional specialists to understand the ecosystems he enters with a vision for sustainable harvesting practices and the importance of conservation.

Deadliest Dinners will debut on Foxtel and its streaming service Binge later this year.

Howard Myers-Rifai, Foxtel Group’s head of unscripted originals, said the new series was “exactly the kind of entertaining and exhilarating content we love bringing to Binge audiences.”

“The series blends adventure, danger and incredible food in a way that feels fresh and completely unpredictable,” Myers-Rifai said.

Executive producers on the series are Kalpou for Mew Productions and Myers-Rifai for Foxtel.

Kalpou is also behind previous series Man Eats Wild and United Plates, which he developed via Mew Productions.

“This series is very personal to me. It’s about getting back to our roots and rediscovering food from the wild, while showcasing the raw beauty of Australia’s landscapes and the deep respect they deserve. I hope the show reminds people that one of the most powerful connections we can have is with nature,” Kalpou said.
