Fox cancels sitcom, Marvel series

The Gifted has been cancelled after two seasons

US broadcast network Fox has made its first cancellations since The Walt Disney Company acquired 21st Century Fox.

The axe has fallen on Rel and The Gifted, with both cancellations confirmed by the show’s respective co-stars Lil Rel Howery and Nat Alyn Lind on Twitter.

Freshman sitcom Rel was co-created by Kevin Barnett and Howery, who starred as a Chicago man trying to rebuild his life after his ex-wife slept with his barber.

Set in Disney-owned Marvel’s X-Men universe, family adventure series The Gifted, which was in its second season, followed a suburban family whose lives change forever when they discover their children have developed mutant powers.

US reports have suggested the latter series could find a new home at Disney in the future.

The Walt Disney Company closed its acquisition of assets belonging to 21st Century Fox, which did not include the Fox network, last month.
