Fireworks picks up NZ teen spy sitcom

Fireworks International has come onboard for the international rights to New Zealand teen live-action comedy Secret Agent Men (26×30′) in time for a MipTV launch later this month.

The series, produced by NZ’s Greenstone Pictures for TV3, is a “fast, funny and furious” sitcom set in the high-tech world of super spies, secret agents and over-the-top villains, this time with kids in charge.

Nicko Vella (Jackson’s Wharf, Xena, Shortland Street) stars as 15-year old super spy who must save the world from evil, represented by fellow Shortland Street alumni Peter Feeney, as well as finishing his homework on time.

Greenstone’s first major scripted production, the show was created by Stephen J Campbell (Ice TV, Police Programme), and written by Campbell, Matt McPhail and Jon Bridges.

“We believe the show will travel well,” said Greenstone ceo John Harris. “Greenstone is known for its factual series like The Zoo and Serious Crash Unit, and its Private Lives documentaries, and we look forward to similar success with Secret Agent Men.”

Fireworks International president Greg Phillips added: “It’s visual and tongue-in-cheek humour will work for kids and adults everywhere, we are sure”.
