Vice Media has named former NBCUniversal and Dick Clark Productions executive Adam Stotsky as its CEO as Bruce Dixon steps down from the role.

Based in Los Angeles, Stotsky will oversee the company’s business and operational strategy at units including Vice Studios, Vice Sports, Vice Commercials (which comprises the Pulse Films and London Alley labels), Vice News and its advertising agency Virtue.

He will report to Vice Media’s executive chairman Michael Lang, who made the announcement on Monday. The appointment is effective immediately.

Most recently, Stotsky was the president of live entertainment specialist Dick Clark Productions, which was sold to Penske Media during his tenure. Prior to that, he was the president of E! Entertainment and Esquire Network at NBCUniversal, where he also did a stint as chief marketing officer.

He was also previously the president of sports-focused prodco Religion of Sports and played a key role as the company completed a US$50m equity raise.

“Adam is a seasoned operator with deep brand expertise across television, sports and media. He is the perfect executive to lead Vice for our next phase of growth,” said Lang.

“The company has significant momentum and with Adam now in place, we are well-positioned for the future.”

Stotsky said he was looking forward to building the Vice brand “during a time of rapid change and consolidation in the media and entertainment sector.”

Stotsky’s appointment follows that of former Amazon and Paramount Television executive Amy Powell as president of Vice Studios. Vice Media also recently acquired UK-based producer Cuba Pictures and in April reorganised its global production operation into a new entity called Vice Studios Group.

Dixon is leaving after over two years at the helm. In that time, the company has restructured after filing for bankruptcy and emerged with a streamlined business plan.

“The board and I want to thank Bruce for all his efforts to streamline the company, achieve profitability and better position us for future growth. We wish Bruce continued success in his next chapter,” said Lang.
